January 7-16

As of reading this book for the past week, the 5th Wave is a survival story of a young girl, Cassie Sullivan who is left to fend for herself after the death of her parents and younger brother. In the beginning, she was talking about how aliens had started to decimate the human population through a tsunami, triggering a fault line, frying all electronics and engines, and a disease with a 97% kill rate. Right now, I am on Chapter 17 and Cassie is remembering her past where her dad, brother, and her were together on a military base.

“How would you rather die?” she snapped. “Hiding under your bed or riding Thunder Mountain?”

Good question.

Yancey, pg. 19

Previously, she had used the M16 rifle that her father had given her to kill a soldier who was in desperate need of help. Cassie was worried, nervous, and scared, because it is difficult to tell the aliens from the humans. She shot the dying soldier in fear of him attacking her.
